Social Innovation

Social Innovation Practitioner Certification (SIPC)

An internationally recognised credential for people designing and delivering social innovation — anchored in an open methodology, examined independently by certN, valid for life.

What SIPC is

The Social Innovation Practitioner Certification (SIPC) certifies that the holder can apply the Social Innovation framework in real-world institutional, social, and development contexts.

It addresses a clear gap. Practitioners working on social challenges need a credential that demonstrates applied competence — not academic familiarity with theory, but the ability to do the work. SIPC tests that.

The certification is awarded by ADP. The exam is administered independently by certN, the certification’s examination institute.

What SIPC certifies

An SIPC-certified practitioner can:

  • Analyse social challenges using structured tools
  • Design and test innovative solutions
  • Contribute to sustainable social impact through applied methodology
  • Work effectively across the full innovation cycle (Discover → Define → Develop → Deliver)
  • Apply the framework in NGO, public-sector, corporate, and entrepreneurial contexts

Who SIPC is for

The certification is designed for professionals and aspiring practitioners working at the intersection of social impact, innovation, and development:

  • Government and public-sector staff working on social initiatives, policies, and cross-sector partnerships
  • Nonprofit professionals designing and implementing social and development programmes
  • CSR and sustainability practitioners managing social responsibility, ESG, and social investment initiatives
  • Social entrepreneurs developing mission-driven ventures and impact-focused business models
  • Youth and initiative leaders of community initiatives and volunteer teams
  • Consultants and trainers advising organisations on social development and institutional growth

Certification requirements

To be awarded the Social Innovation Practitioner Certification (SIPC), candidates must successfully pass the official SIPC professional examination with a minimum score of 70%.

There are no mandatory prerequisites to register for or sit the exam. However, candidates are strongly advised to have 2–3 years of practical experience in social innovation or related development fields and must complete a 25-hour preparatory training programme to strengthen applied understanding and exam readiness.

How to register and take the exam

Booking and delivery are handled by certN. The full process, in order:

  1. Prepare. Study the Social Innovation Manual — by yourself or with an accredited trainer — until you can apply the framework to a real or hypothetical case.
  2. Buy an exam voucher on certN. One voucher buys one attempt at the main exam. You or your employer can purchase.
  3. Create your certN account at vds.certn.global and redeem your voucher.
  4. Take a practice exam. Familiarise yourself with the exam format and timing before the main attempt.
  5. Take the main exam whenever you’re ready. Online from your own workspace, or in-person where a certN venue is available. There’s no fixed schedule.
  6. Pass certN’s digital ID check. A proctor verifies your identity during the exam (manual verification is available if needed).
  7. Receive your results and certificate. certN publishes results on a defined schedule. On passing, ADP issues the credential and you can download official badges for your CV, LinkedIn, and professional materials.

If you fail, there is no waiting period — buy a new voucher and rebook through certN as soon as you’re ready. certN also operates a formal appeals process if you disagree with a certification decision; details are on certN’s site.

For exam-day support — technical issues, scheduling changes, voucher questions — contact certN directly at support@certn.global.

Renewal

The SIPC credential is valid for life. There is no renewal fee, no annual maintenance, no continuing-education requirement.
